Welcome Message from the Course Director
Paul D. McAdams, MD
Hello again from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia! With the summer humidity behind us and the leaves starting to turn, the 2012 Kimbrough is approaching quickly – only about 7 weeks to go as I write this update.
The resident research competition presentations will be on Monday, January 16th and there looks to be a strong showing among our up-and-coming urologists!
The academic schedule is final now and I’ll be reaching out via the president of this year’s Kimbrough, James Auman, MD, as well as through the specialty leaders to find SGSU members willing to act as session moderators, panel members and presentation judges. Feel free to contact me directly to get involved!
In addition to the speakers mentioned in the last update, we are privileged to have Dr. Datta Wagle, the AUA Immediate Past President, in
attendance and he will be speaking on the role and relevance of the AUA to today’s urologists and explaining the AUA’s role in developing
new clinical guidelines and the core curriculum. Ken Angermeier, MD, will be giving the State-of-the-Art Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons lecture on standardizing the repair of complex rectourethral fistulas. From Southern Illinois University School
of Medicine, Dr. Patrick McKenna will be providing an update on pediatric urology, but also has agreed to be our evening speaker for
the Awards Banquet! His talk about the attempted assassination of President Reagan, “Critical Shot: Survival that Made a Presidency,
Changed the Nation, and United the World” should be one of the week’s highlights!
So, with that enticement, I’ll look forward to seeing you in Charleston, 15 – 20, January, 2012!
